The church site of the vanished village of Tadzari near Samkure: of the village itself only the name remains, and of the church the traces on the spot where it stood. The name itself is telling: tadzari means a temple in Georgian, so the village was once named after its church: a rare case where the villageโs story is told by its very name.
The Potskhovi valley keeps many such places, and Tadzari is among the most eloquent of them: the name, the slope and the silence tell the story without a single plaque. It is an experience for lovers of slow routes: a climb up the slope, open space and the work of imagination. The climb takes some fifteen minutes at an unhurried pace.
The place is open and can be approached at any time: there are no buildings here and no services. One returns from the slope by the same path, leaving nothing and taking nothing.
