The church of St. George in Didi Smada is a working village church of Adigeni Municipality close to the valley’s main road. St. George is especially venerated in Samtskhe, dedications to him are the most frequent here, and the Didi Smada church carries the tradition worthily.
The place is kept and calm: services, village cares, the Potskhovi valley around. The nearness of the main road makes Didi Smada the most accessible of the St. George churches of the area: people look in on the way between Akhaltsikhe and Adigeni without long detours: a couple of minutes off the asphalt, and you are at the gates.
A guest is met kindly, and the rules are usual: modest dress, a headscarf for women, silence during worship. The patronal day, Giorgoba, gathers the village most fully.
