The church of St. George in Chorchani is a village church in the chain of villages east of Adigeni, next door to Didi Smada. One more St. George dedication in a land where the saint is especially venerated: in the number of such churches Samtskhe rivals any region of Georgia.
It is mostly locals who look in, and that is a good sign: the church lives by parish life, not by a tourist timetable. For a traveller Chorchani fits neatly into one route with the neighbouring villages of the valley: several churches over a dozen kilometres of road: Didi Smada, Chorchani, Bolajuri and Ijareti fold into one unhurried loop.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for a service if one is under way. On Giorgoba the village gathers by the church most fully.
