The church of St George stands in Zemo Kodistskaro village. Zemo means upper, and this is the upper of the two Kodistskaro villages that lie one above the other on the slope.
Another shrine of the village itself, the ruins of the church of St Barbara, stands about five hundred and forty metres away. Beyond it begins the Kvitkiristskaro district with its church and the Petre tower, some three kilometres off, while in the other direction Mchadijvari rises with its castle.
The church is rural and its gates are opened by arrangement, and asking in the village is quicker than waiting at the door. The rules are the usual ones: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. Both shrines of the village are easily walked in one outing.
