The church is dedicated to St. Barbara. In Georgia her memory falls in mid December, and the day is called Barbaroba in the folk calendar: a special bread is baked for it, and in mountain villages people gather at the church of her name.
The church stands in Lami, in the mountains north of Mtskheta. The church of St. George of the same village rises about seven hundred metres away, the three places of prayer a kilometre off, the Crow sakdari and the niche of St. Lomisa a little further. Down the slope, three and a half kilometres away, lies Upureti with niches of its own, and beyond the pass stands the parish of the Virgin at Choporti.
The village is small and scattered along the slope, and its shrines are walked between. The road is unpaved and slippery in bad weather. Inside, dress modestly and keep voices low; offerings left in place are not touched.
