The Sioni of Toneti in the south of the village. Sioni is a name pointing to Mount Zion in Jerusalem, and in Georgia it is borne by a great many churches: this is not a unique title but a whole type of dedication.
The best known Sioni of these parts, that of Bolnisi, stands about sixty kilometres away and has nothing to do with the one at Toneti. Of the four churches of Didi Toneti this is the southern one, a little over a kilometre from the kviratskhoveli.
When searching, keep to the coordinates rather than the name: Georgia holds many a Sioni and you may arrive somewhere else entirely. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet.
