The church is dedicated to Saint George, and it is one of the most prominent village churches of the Tetri Tskaro district: the place is genuinely visited rather than merely marked on a map.
Didi Toneti lies four kilometres from Manglisi, an old mountain resort where people have come since the late nineteenth century to take the air of the pine forests. The neighbourhood is high and wooded, the climate cooler than in Tbilisi, and in summer people come up here to escape the heat.
There is no fixed schedule of services, but the village is lively and it is usually possible to step inside. The usual rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside. The stop combines well with a trip to Manglisi: the road is short and the change in altitude noticeable, so bring a windproof layer even in summer.
