A kviratskhoveli church in Didi Toneti. The name of the dedication comes from the Georgian word for the Lord's day, and such churches are found across the country, from the plains to mountain villages.
Didi Toneti is generous with shrines: four churches in a single village. Yet they are scattered more widely than usual: a little over a kilometre from here to the Sioni, about a kilometre and a half to the church of the Mother of God, and almost three to the Holy Trinity church.
All four cannot be walked, a car is needed, and it is worth allowing an hour for the village. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf for women.
