The eastern church ruins lie in the upper reaches of a right tributary of the Poladauri river, on a rock massif on the southern slope of the ridge, about three kilometres east of the historical village of Shermazana. The hall is large, some twelve metres by eight, laid of more or less worked stone of varying size on mortar.

Green tuff went into the masonry as well and noticeably freshens the wall. The corners and the main body are set in ashlars, while well worked stones were picked out for the window and door openings, the arches and the capitals. Sources assign the building to the 14th and 15th centuries.

There are three entrances, all rectangular, dressed outside with large architrave stones and arched within. Above the south and west doors, small semicircular stones are laid on the architrave and carry an arch of fluted stone, an imitation lunette. Traces of an inscription can be read on the stone above the south door.

💡 Tip

  • Green tuff in the masonry freshens the wall
  • An imitation lunette above the south and west doors
  • Traces of an inscription on the stone above the south entrance
