The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is known as the Kalobani one: Kalobani here is the name of a locality rather than of a separate village with its own address. Such names of localities outlive administrative boundaries in Kakheti, and people navigate by them more readily than by official names.
The church stands at the edge of Tokhliauri, a village east of Sagarejo, at the foot of the Gombori range. Barely eighty metres away is the second Kalobani church, dedicated to Saint George: the two read as a single cluster and are seen together.
No regular services are held here and the site can be approached at any time. Both churches stand side by side, so the visit is short, and it fits well into a drive along the Gombori road between Tbilisi and Telavi. Treat the old masonry gently.
