The church of Saint George in Manavi carries two qualifiers at once: Taraki and Vedrebela. Both appear to be local names tied to a locality or a tradition, and their origin is not explained.
Manavi itself is known above all for the fortress on the ridge above the village: its walls are visible from afar and remain the main reason to stop here. The village lies west of Sagarejo, on a slope with a view over the surrounding plain. To the east, in Cheremi, about eight church buildings stand, so the area deserves a trip of its own.
A village church may keep no fixed schedule; service times are learned on site. If you plan to climb to the fortress, allow time and suitable footwear. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women.
