  • Description

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Manavi is one of the last magnificent works of ancient Georgian architecture that adorns the beautiful region of Kakheti. Rising on the slope of a mountain, 15 kilometers east of the village of Manavi, this church attracts attention with its majestic beauty.

Built in 1794 by order of the abbot of the Baptist Monastery, David Gareji, this sacred temple has served as a place of worship for believers for centuries. Dedicated by Archimandrite Eftime, the Manavi Church is a fine example of the Kupelhale style.

In 2008, the church underwent restoration, returning to its original beauty and grandeur.

Architecturally, the Manavi Church is a small but impressive structure measuring 10.85 by 6.8 meters. The interior of the temple is organized in the shape of an elongated triangle with an apse at the eastern end and a wide boat spanning the entire width of the church. The dome is supported by wall projections and redirected arches, creating the impression of a bright and airy interior space.

Manavi Church attracts attention with its unique architectural style, majestic beauty and spiritual atmosphere. This place is worth visiting for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the history and culture of Georgia, discover its ancient secrets and feel the power of time embedded in the stone walls of this sacred temple.
