The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and stands in the densest church cluster of this part of Kakheti: three sanctuaries of Burdiani fit within half a kilometre. Barely thirty metres away is a church of Saint George, and half a kilometre to the west a church cut into the rock.
Thirty metres between two churches is not unusual in Kakhetian villages: the dedications differ, historically the parishes did too, and one does not replace the other. Burdiani lies on the plain east of Sagarejo, away from the main roads of the region.
There is no fixed schedule of services and the site can be approached at any time. All three sanctuaries of the village can be walked in about twenty minutes, and that alone makes a deliberate trip worthwhile: nowhere else in the neighbourhood are church sites so compact. The usual rules apply.
