The church carries the name of Shio. In Georgia that name belongs above all to Shio of Mgvime, one of the Syrian fathers who came to preach and founded monasteries: his house at Shiomgvime near Mtskheta is known across the country. Here the name is given without explanation, and we do not assert the link.

Patardzeuli lies on the Kakheti plain at the foot of the Gombori range, eight kilometres from Sagarejo. The second Sunday chapel of the village stands about a kilometre away, the church of St. George three, the Dreidzi church four. Beyond the hill, five kilometres off, rise the basilica of St. George at Khashmi and the Trinity monastery of Katsareti.

The parish is a village one and services are not held every day, so it is easier to get inside while ordinary life is going on around. Dress modestly, a headscarf for women, quiet inside. The road runs across the plain and is passable all year.
