The name of this chapel is an unusual one: the second Sunday chapel. In Georgia Sunday chapels were those to which a village came on days when no service was held in the parish church, and an ordinal number usually meant that such a chapel was not the only one in the village.
Patardzeuli stands on the Kakheti plain at the foot of the Gombori range. The nearest neighbour is the church of Shio, about a kilometre away, then the basilica of Joachim and Anna at Tskarostavi and the church of the Virgin of Ninotsminda village, both a little over three kilometres off. The village gives the district five shrines.
Chapels of this kind are small and without a fence, and can be seen from outside. The usual rules: modest dress, quiet, nothing moved. The road here runs across the plain and is passable all year, and the village stands away from the main highways.
