The church is dedicated to the Virgin and stands in the Kakheti village of Ninotsminda. The name of the village goes back to St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia, and means literally Saint Nino: in Kakheti such names belong to places long linked with her veneration.
The village lies three kilometres from Sagarejo, on the plain by the Gombori range. Shrines are many around: the church of Sts Peter and Paul in Sagarejo about two kilometres away, the basilica of Joachim and Anna at Tskarostavi two, the ruins of the church of St. Marine in Sagarejo three.
The chief confusion here is the name: a town of the same name stands on the Javakheti plateau, a hundred and fifty kilometres away, and its shrines are entirely different. The church is in use: modest dress, a headscarf for women, quiet inside. The road from Sagarejo is easy and passable all year.
