The Mother of God church on the south-western edge of Zemo Alvani is a quiet spot of the Tush village away from the main streets. While the St. George church in the residential part meets the main flow, the Mother of God church remains a place for those seeking quiet even in a quiet village: there are never groups or queues here.
Together with the St. George church it makes a small Zemo Alvani route: two churches, Tush yards between them and the mountains of Tusheti on the horizon, where the famous Omalo road departs from here.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a headscarf for women, quiet. In summer the village is half-empty: the Tush leave with their flocks for the mountains, and the church stands in complete stillness.
