The Iakhsari church by the road between Akhmeta and Zemo Alvani is a roadside church with a name from the mountain tradition. Iakhsari is a name known above all from the shrines of Pshavi, and its presence on the Kakhetian plain is one more thread between the mountains and the valley, like the Pirkushi chapel in Akhmeta itself.
The church is visible straight from the highway, and the stop takes minutes: a short pause on a road that for many leads onward into Tusheti. Further along the same road wait the two churches of Zemo Alvani, and beyond them begins the climb to the passes.
The church is seen freely, with ordinary courtesy: a quiet voice and modest dress. It is better to leave the car on the verge away from the turn: the view here is incomplete.
