The Khorbalo church is another church of the Bakhtrioni ensemble, a few dozen metres from the Muni church. The density of churches around the famed fortress speaks for itself: the place above the Alazani remained the spiritual knot of the area for centuries.
For a traveller Khorbalo is the finishing touch of the Bakhtrioni round: the parish church at the foot, the church within the fortress walls, little Muni and this church by the road. Four stops fold into one calm hour above the Alazani valley, with the fortress walls as a backdrop.
The church is seen freely, with ordinary courtesy: a quiet voice and modest dress. The old masonry needs care: no climbing on the walls and no shifting of stones. The round of the four churches is best begun from below, at the parish church.
