The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and stands on an ordinary village street in Zemo Alvani, in the built-up part. Of all the rural churches around it is one of the most accessible: it stays open for most of the daylight hours.
Zemo Alvani and neighbouring Kvemo Alvani are Tush villages on the plain: for centuries the Tush came down here from the mountains to winter and returned to Tusheti in summer. From here begins the climb to the Abano pass, one of the highest driveable passes in the Caucasus, leading to Omalo. Kvemo Alvani holds a Kviratskhoveli church.
The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside. If you are heading to Tusheti this makes a convenient stop before the climb: there are almost no villages further along the route, and the pass is open only in the warm season, usually from June to October.
