Skhvilo Fortress in Shida Kartli: 14th-Century Mountain Castle
In 1973, several scenes from the popular Georgian film "Eccentrics" were filmed on the grounds of the Skhvilo Fortress.
The Skhvilo Fortress is located in the Kaspi Municipality, east of the village of Chali, three kilometers from the border between Tskhinvali and Georgia's historical region of Shida Kartli. The fortress was built in the 14th century. The history of this fortress is linked to the feudal Zevdgenidze family (a branch of the Amilakhvari family). One of this family, Iotam Zevdgenidze, was canonized by the Georgian Church: in 1465, he gave his life to save George VIII from assassination by traitors. The grateful king paid tribute to his descendants, granting them the hereditary positions of military commander and amlahor (cavalry commander). In the 14th century, Skhvilo was the residence of the Zevdgenidzes. In 1905-1907, the fortress served as a gathering place for revolutionary-minded peasants.
The fortress stands on a mountaintop. From here, it commands the surrounding area—the Lehuri River valley and the Tirython Plain. The fortress itself is elongated and quadrangular in shape, occupying an area of 500 square meters. The only entrance to the fortress is in the western part, two meters above ground level. It was likely accessed via a wooden staircase. The fence is 10-14 meters high and two meters thick. The walls are reinforced with five-story towers culminating in dentils. The fortress complex contains battle trails, loopholes, and stone throwers.
The inner courtyard, divided by walls, contains the ruins of a church, a reservoir, a barn, and residential buildings. Traces of a rectangular room remain in the northwest corner of the enclosure. It is believed that this was the site of a "court." The fortress grounds have not been explored by archaeologists, but due to its location and unusual shape, Skhvilo Fortress is popular with tourists.

крепость Схвило — средневековое укрепление XIV века, построенное на вершине горы в Каспском муниципалитете неподалёку от села Чали. 
Её история тесно связана с именем рода Зевдгенидзе‑Амилахвари, могущественной феодальной семьи, чья резиденция здесь была и откуда они контролировали долину реки Лехури и Тирифонскую равнину. Одним из самых драматичных эпизодов стал подвиг Иотама Зевдгенидзе, который пожертвовал собой, спасая царя Георгия VIII — за что его канонизировали, а семье пожаловали почётные военные обязанности. 
Крепость построена в продолговатой четырёхугольной форме с высокими стенами до 14 м, бойницами, бойницами для метания камней и боевыми тропами — архитектура, которая делает её не только живой страницей истории, но и впечатляющим объектом для исследования. 
Во внутреннем дворе можно увидеть руины церкви, водоёма, амбара и жилых помещений — и несмотря на то, что археологические исследования здесь ещё не завершены, ощущение древней энергии и легенд чувствуется в воздухе. 
Крепость нередко привлекает туристов благодаря своему захватывающему расположению на вершине холма и видам на окрестности, и даже сегодня её посещение часто совмещают с осмотром других исторических мест региона Шида-Картли.
