The Kilikes Jvari shrine stands on the uplands near Tkhinala village in the south of Shida Kartli. Jvari in Georgian means a cross: the word covers both wayside crosses and the small shrines beside them.
The spot is open, with a wide view over the surrounding ridges, and it is well known in the area. The churches of Didi Tsereti stand three kilometres to the north, and the way to the Tkhinala villages runs east.
The shrine can be approached at any time. Candles and modest offerings are left here, gifts of others are not touched, and the place deserves careful treatment.
