The church is dedicated to the Mother of God and stands in Bnavisi village, at the foot of the ridge south-west of Gori. No dating has become attached to the building.
Bnavisi and Tsedisi stand so close together that the churches of the two villages form one dense group: only a few hundred metres separate them from the Tsedisi sites. Administratively these are different villages; on the ground it is a single settlement spread along the foot of the ridge. Adding up the churches of Bnavisi, Tsedisi and Khidistavi gives five buildings within a couple of kilometres.
For a day route around Gori this is a ready-made small circle, with working churches and the ruins of a fortress church alike. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf. Parts of the road are unpaved.
