In Georgia the name Lomisi is associated above all with the famous mountain sanctuary in the Ksani gorge, where thousands of pilgrims climb for Lomisoba. This church is not that one: it is a separate church of St. George near Khidistavi village, carrying the same name.
Veneration of the Lomisi St. George long ago spread beyond a single gorge, and such churches occur in various parts of the country. This one stands between Khidistavi and Tsedisi at the foot of the ridge, which is why it is attached now to one village, now to the other: on the ground it is one and the same place.
Lomisoba, the feast of the Lomisi St. George, is marked in early summer. You can walk up to the church at any time of day. The road runs south-west of Gori, with the last stretch unpaved. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf.
