The church of St. George stands in Kvelaantubani village in the west of Shida Kartli. The name of the village is built from a family root and the word ubani, meaning a quarter.
The area lies south of Kareli, in the hills above the Mtkvari valley. Villages with similar names stand on the neighbouring slopes, among them Gaichaantubani with its own church.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.
