The church is dedicated to Mary the Mother of God, Mariamtsminda in Georgian, and a monastery is active beside it. It stands near Gagluantubani village in the west of Shida Kartli.
The area is known under several names: besides Gagluantubani, the forms Zemo Boshuri and Petviskhevi appear as well. A Kviratskhovloba church stands two kilometres away, and a church of St. George is a little further in Kvelaantubani.
Modest clothing is appropriate in the monastery, and women may want a headscarf. Photography and attending services are best agreed with the residents.
