The monastery at Karta near Gverdzineti village is dedicated to St. Athanasius of Alexandria, also called Athanasius the Great. The community lives by its own routine.
The area lies east of Khashuri, in the wooded hills above the valleys. The Karmeli monastery with its two churches stands a couple of kilometres to the east, and Tsiplovana with the Saterdze monastery begins to the north.
Modest clothing is appropriate in the monastery, and women may want a headscarf. Photography and attending services are best agreed with the residents.
