The church of the Nativity of the Virgin stands in Gharta village in the west of Shida Kartli. In Georgia the feast is called Mariamoba, and churches of this dedication are many here.
The village lies east of Khashuri, in the hills above the valleys. Two kilometres away is the area of Karta with the monastery of St. Athanasius: the names are alike, yet these are different places.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.
