Bertubani stands at the far end of the Dzama Gorge, near the village of Tkemlovani in the Karelian Municipality. It is a monastery of the Ruisko-Urbnisi Diocese, consecrated on October 27, 2003, in the name of St. Mary of Egypt.

There are two churches in the courtyard: one dedicated to St. Mary of Egypt, the other to the righteous King Vakhtang Gorgasali. The monastery is hidden among the greenery, and the flow of visitors is sparse.

The Dzama Gorge is densely populated with monasteries. The first to appear here was Kozifa, dating back to the 7th-9th centuries. Kintsvisi, with its frescoes, was founded in the 12th-13th centuries, and Mzovreti stands near Ortubani. Bertubani is part of a new wave: at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, eight more monasteries were founded in the gorge.

🕍 What to see

Two churches in the courtyard, monastery buildings, wooded slopes above the gorge, and the trail itself through the Dzama Valley.
