The Kldekari monastery stands in the mountains near Tkemlovana village in the south of Shida Kartli. The name reads by its parts: klde means rock and kari means gate.
The same name belongs to the well-known Kldekari fortress in Trialeti, in Tetritskaro Municipality, and the two should not be mixed up: this monastery lies on the other side of the range. The Abukhalo monastery stands a little over a kilometre to the south.
Modest clothing is appropriate in the monastery, and women may want a headscarf. The road here climbs up the gorge, so dry weather makes the drive easier.
