The Orkhevi monastery stands in the wooded hills near Kodmani village in the west of Shida Kartli. The name echoes the Georgian khevi, a gorge, and the place is indeed tucked into a fold of the slope.
The area lies south of Khashuri, above the Kura valley. The nearest neighbours are close at hand: the Kodmani monastery about half a kilometre away, with the Tbeti and Kvatetri houses a little further.
The usual monastic rules apply here: covered shoulders and knees, and quiet. Photography and attending services are best agreed with the residents.
