The Tbeti monastery stands in the wooded hills near Kodmani village in the west of Shida Kartli. The name is a well-known one: the historic Tbeti is in Shavsheti, and a Tbeti village also lies on the Tsalka plateau, so namesakes are plenty.
The area lies south of Khashuri, above the Kura valley, where the slopes are cut by short gorges. The nearest neighbours, the Orkhevi and Kodmani monasteries, stand about a kilometre away.
Modest clothing is appropriate in the monastery, and women may want a headscarf. Photography and attending services are best agreed with the residents.
