The church is known by the name Tigashen while its address ties it to the village of Jigrasheni: the name of the tract and the name of the village have parted here, which is usual in Javakheti. The place is referred to as Armenian and as Georgian alike, and both traditions have been neighbours on the plateau for centuries.
Jigrasheni lies on the plateau seven kilometres from Ninotsminda, among treeless fields. Another church of the village, the Armenian church of the Holy Archangels, stands about nine hundred metres away. Further north stretch Kaurma and Eshtia with shrines of their own, and to the south the Halacha shrine in Ninotsminda itself.
Churches of the plateau are opened mostly for services, and on ordinary days the doors may be shut, though the building is visible from outside. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside. In winter the plateau is cold and windy, and the warmer months are the better time to come.
