The church by the ancient settlement of Rokiti is a church on the site of a vanished settlement south-west of Aspindza. Namosakhlari means the place of an old settlement in Georgian: of Rokiti itself a field with traces of life remains, while the church still marks its centre, having outlived its own village.
Javakheti is generous with such places, and they carry a tone of their own: a building left with no parishioners but with memory, and memory holds firmer than the walls. It is worth coming for that silence and for the field road from Atskvita, where no companions but larks will be around. Half an hour here is worth another day of tours.
The place is open and can be approached at any time: there are no services here. The old walls need care, and the field around asks respect for the traces of the former life.
