The church of St. Theodore Tyron in Toloshi is a parish church in the residential part of a village on the Vardzia road. It is also known under the short name of St. Tevdore, as this warrior martyr is called in Georgian; the same dedication is borne by churches in New Athos and Shibliani.
Toloshi is a handy stop on the grand Vardzia route: a village in the Mtkvari valley where one can pause, see a village church from inside ordinary life and continue to the cave town. Nearby, on the slope, stands the Alandzia church as well: two stops in one village, a quarter of an hour of road between them.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for a service if one is under way. On the patronal day of Tevdoroba the church gets crowded.
