The Ascension church stands at the site of old Muskhi, an abandoned settlement in the hills southeast of Akhaltsikhe. The building survives better than its neighbours and remains the main sanctuary of this locality.
Two more churches of the same site lie nearby: a church site with a prayer niche eight hundred metres away and the St George church a little higher up the slope. The living village of Muskhi stands four kilometres from here.
The last kilometres of the road are unpaved and turn soft in the rain. Wear closed shoes: the paths are grassy.
