The Saint George naeklesiari marks the site of a former church in the Muskhi area. A foundation and traces of masonry remain, while the building itself has not survived.
Several church sites are marked in the Muskhi area: the Akhdila church about a kilometre and a half away, a sajvare and the Ascension church in old Muskhi. Such density is usual for Meskhetian villages, where parishes were divided by quarter. The village belongs to Akhaltsikhe Municipality.
Take nothing away from the site, not even small fragments. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Allow no more than half an hour for the visit.
- Bring water, as there are no kiosks nearby.
- Watch your step in tall grass.
Getting there
- Navigate by the coordinates, as there may be no signs on the approach.
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
