The church ruins lie on the site of the former village of Damkali. The word nasoplari means a deserted village: no inhabited households remain here, while the church survives as walls.
The area belongs to Aspindza Municipality, to its northern part at the entrance to the Kura valley. The ruins of the Archangel church of Gogasheni lie about a kilometre and a half away. The slopes here are dry and stony and the roads unpaved.
Take nothing away from the site, not even small fragments. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Allow no more than half an hour for the visit.
- Bring water, as there are no kiosks nearby.
- Wear shoes with a firm sole.
Getting there
- Navigate by the coordinates, as there may be no signs on the approach.
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
