The main church of the Gogasheni complex was dedicated to John the Baptist; today walls remain of it. It stood above the parish church, only a couple of dozen metres away, and held the commanding position in the ensemble.
Gogasheni holds three church sites at once, which is a good number for an Aspindza village. The area is dry, vegetation is sparse and the slopes are stony. The roads are unpaved, and in summer the heat sets in from early morning.
Do not move objects left by the walls. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Leave spare time for the climb.
- In summer bring a hat, as there is almost no shade.
- Watch your step in tall grass.
Getting there
- Leave the car at the nearest street and continue on foot.
- Navigate by the coordinates, as there may be no signs on the approach.
