The Ani church site is the place of an old church beyond the northern edge of the village, a kilometre from the working St. George church. The naeklesiari keeps only the position and the memory: the villageโs former church stood here, above the present houses, where the village once began.
The climb is short, and at the top come two rewards at once: a view over the valley and that quiet feeling of village history for which such places are put on a route. Paired with the working church of Ani it makes a half-hour walk across two ages of one village.
The place is open and can be approached at any time: there are no services here. The slope asks the travellerโs usual care: stones are not moved and no traces are left. The path is well trodden and takes ten minutes in dry weather.
