The church of the Archangel Gabriel in Latali carries a second name as well, Mkheri. Latali is famed for its churches: this community of Zemo Svaneti is held to be among the richest in shrines in all Georgia.
The village lies twelve kilometres from Mestia, on the road up from the Enguri, and stands in full view of the towers. Neighbouring shrines are many: four kilometres away are the churches of Lahili and the ruins of the church of St. Elijah.
Almost everyone driving to Zemo Svaneti looks into Latali, so the church is worth adding to the route. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside; follow the coordinates.
