The church is known as one of St. George and is also referred to as a church of the Virgin. Double dedications are not rare in Racha: the older name lasts in village speech while a newer one arrives with a chapel or with the renewal of the building, and both stay in use.
Bugeuli lies seven kilometres from Ambrolauri and eight from Nikortsminda, in the wide part of the Racha valley. Neighbours are many around: the church of Bostana about a kilometre and a half away, the sakdari of Znakva two, the church of Kedisubani three. Wall painting survives in the church, a notable feature for a village shrine.
Painting suffers where it is damp, so do not touch the walls inside and avoid using a flash. Dress modestly and keep voices low. The road from Ambrolauri is paved and passable all year.
