The new church of Tsikhisdziri is a working church of St. George in the residential part of the village by the western shore of the Zhinvali reservoir. The village is not rich in events, and the church remains its main gathering place: services, feasts, christenings.
For a traveller the place gives what the neighbouring Ananuri fortress cannot: the ordinary, unadorned life of a Mtianeti village with a view over the turquoise water of the reservoir. The turn off the Georgian Military Road is short, and the impression is of the lasting kind: the water is seen right from the church fence.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, no filming during a service. On Giorgoba the church gets crowded: for quiet come on a weekday, when the village lives by its ordinary rhythm.
