The cemetery church of Tsikhisdziri is a small church by the village burial ground on the edge of the village. In Georgian villages such churches hold a special place: they are tied to the memorial tradition, and people come on days of remembrance, on the Easter of the Dead and family dates.
For a traveller it is a place of observation rather than sightseeing. Yet it says much about the living order of Mtianeti, where the memory of the kin and the church by the cemetery remain part of the yearly circle of a village above the Zhinvali reservoir. From the road the church is seen from afar and serves as the landmark of this part of the village.
The place asks quiet and special tact: one does not stroll here as at a sight, keeps to the paths, and does not photograph the graves or the people by them. The best time for a look from aside is an ordinary weekday.
