A church within the Dmanisi site, in its Zemoubani part. Zemoubani literally means the upper quarter: that was the name of the part of the settlement lying above the rest.
Two different places should not be confused here. The Dmanisi site and the modern town of Dmanisi are about twelve kilometres apart: the site lies by Patara Dmanisi and the town further west. People come for the whole place, and the church is seen along the way.
The site is open and needs care underfoot: the masonry crumbles in places and the paths are worn without railings. At the church the usual rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet.
