A monastic house in Vardisubani. A monastery differs from a parish church not in size but in its way of life: a community lives here and services follow the monastic order rather than the needs of a village.
The area here is a dense one. The church of Saint George in Mashavera stands about six hundred metres away, the Dmanisi site with the Zemoubani church two kilometres off, and the Didi Kviratskhoveli naeklesiari a little further. All of it fits into one trip.
The house keeps its own rhythm, and a visit is better arranged in advance. The usual monastic rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, photography by agreement, and no walking about the church during a service.
