The sakdari carries the family name of the Sikhuaants. In Georgian villages such churches were built and kept by a single family, and its name stuck to the building more firmly than any dedication.
It stands in Didi Gomareti, north-east of Dmanisi. The village is large and rich in shrines: there is the Gomareti church, the church of St George, a sakdari in the bushes, a Mother of God church, and a hundred and seventy metres from here the family church of the Khizanaants, dedicated to the Resurrection.
On the spot you can see how the religious topography of a village works: two family churches stand almost side by side, each large family having its own place of prayer. There are no regular services and people come freely.
