Here is the village worth remembering when reading the Kakhetian part: the Saint George church near Bakurtsikhe is known as the Gomarti one, and it is easily confused with the church of Gomareti here. These are different objects in different regions, more than two hundred kilometres apart.
No dedication is given for this church; it is known simply by the name of the village. Didi Gomareti lies in the Dmanisi part of Kvemo Kartli, between Dmanisi and Tsalka, on a hilly plateau with sparse villages and roads open to the wind.
There is no fixed schedule of services and the site can be approached at any time. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet. In winter the plateau drifts over, so come in the warm season and check road conditions in advance in the shoulder months.
