Zinobiani stands apart among Kakhetian villages: the Udi community lives here, descendants of settlers who came to Georgia in the early twentieth century. The Udis are one of the oldest peoples of the Caucasus, and their arrival in Kakheti made this village a separate page in the history of the region.
The qualifier Tsimeri in the name of the church is most likely a local name; no dedication has attached to it. The village lies north-east of Gurjaani, away from the main highway of the Alazani valley, among vineyards. Nearby, on the Oktomberi to Chikaani to Gavazi road, stand the Marian churches of Gavazi and Chikaani with its church of the apostle Thomas, an uncommon dedication in Georgia.
A village church may keep no fixed schedule; service times are learned on site. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and speak quietly on the grounds.
