A samlotsvelo is a small place of prayer rather than a parish church, and the scale is worth picturing in advance. It is dedicated to Gabriel Salos: the word salos means a holy fool, and in the Georgian tradition it is firmly attached to this name.
Zinobiani stands in northern Kakheti, between Kvareli and Gurjaani, and is known as the home of an Udi community resettled here from Vartashen. The Udi have kept their language, and the village remains one of the few places where it can still be heard. The same village holds the Tsimeri church. Kvareli is about twelve kilometres away.
The prayer house is not always open, but it can be approached at any time. The place is small and quiet, so behave accordingly: no loud conversation, shoulders and knees covered. Both sanctuaries of the village combine easily in one trip.
